The dense Central American underbrush trembles as the slow, thunderous footsteps draw nearer. Flocks of birds scatter from the canopy above. A primordial evil from deep within the jungle has awoken, but fear not: the god-king DoubleMex will soon be upon us…

Thus awakened DoubleMex 2024. This years version spent 30 months in a combination of Bookers, Old Fitzgerald, and Elijah Craig bourbon barrels before being combined with our favorite beans, the Losantiville Blend from Deeper Roots coffee, overnighted from the roaster and added to the tank the following day; over 2lbs per barrel of a blend of whole Madagascar and Tahitian vanilla beans that were painstakingly chopped and scraped to extract as much flavor as possible; and last but not least, organic sweet cinnamon sticks.

We've been asked before, "how do you know when it's ready? How do you pick the barrels that ultimately end up in the blend?"

The short answer is there's no exact science and a bit of trial and error. For a beer like DoubleMex, there is a specific profile we are looking for, since we do it every year. Because we add coffee, cinnamon, and vanilla, we're looking for barrels that contribute contrasting characteristics to those flavor profiles. So chocolatey, toasty and roasty are usually what we are aiming for. This adds depth and complexity, preventing it from being too one-noted.  As for timing, we taste barrels throughout the year, and with years of experience, you start to identify when something hits the sweet spot. The edges round out, the beer mellows, the bitterness fades, and you're left with a beer that coats your mouth and demands another sip. Once in awhile, a barrel or two really stands out and then we build around that base.

For the 2024 version, we picked a blend that had an intense chocolate covered dark fruit aroma, charred oak, and an almost caramel like sweetness. Together with the coffee, cinnamon, and vanilla we've got a winner.

All said and done, DoubleMex 2024 is coffee and cinnamon forward with bold brown sugar and oak undertones. It’s thick, balanced, and everything we love about barrel aged stouts. As always, we hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoy making it.

In addition to being able to grab your bottles, we will have a few more day of activities.

DoubleMex Flight: We will be tapping 3 years of DoubleMex to celebrate and enjoy a vertical tasting (2022, 2023, 2024).

DoubleMex Cellar Raid: We will also have a VERY LIMITED amount of 5 year DoubleMex vertical bottles (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) sold as a set available for sale during pickups. These are first come, first serve. For the avid collector or new BG fan who may have missed out on years past!

Mini Bottle Share: One of the pre-COVID traditions we miss deeply were the bottles shares that would spontaneously occur in the taproom. Join Matt as he opens a few bottles from his cellar at 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. Feel free to bring a few bottles from your cellar that have been collecting dust and we can drink them all together!

Braddock Public House: On top of all that we will have DoubleMex 2024 on draft at the Public House (3pm-10pm). Stop down for a musubi, a side pull Helles, a nitro Automatic, or just another taste of DoubleMex in a different vibe.
